Before you read any further, I’d better warn you: if you’ve come looking for stories about airbrushed supermodels or perfect-world life, you might want to click on by. My passion is writing about the real stuff. But if you’re interested in real laughter for real women, don’t touch that dial! You’re in good company.
I’m a book lover from way back. Books are my passion. Reading them and writing them. Ever since I read 103 books in Miss Vopelensky’s first-grade class, I knew I wanted to be a writer. I also wanted to be a Broadway star, but the furthest I got was a basement band in Cleveland—that never made it out of the basement.
But you know how life goes. It’s full of curves and detours that can sidetrack us from our dreams—our passions—the call God has on our lives. And then something happens that forces us to stop and look at life as though we’re seeing it for the very first time. For me, that something was breast cancer. I was diagnosed the day after my first wedding anniversary. Not exactly the gift I was hoping for. Or one that could be returned. I know. I tried.
Strangely enough, I’m grateful for the cancer because it compelled me to follow the dreams God placed in my heart as a little girl. Dreams He has since made come true—once I stepped out in faith. I still find it hard to believe that I’m the author of several books. I find it even harder to believe that at long last, my lifelong dream of writing fiction is a reality. For years, I was terrified to even try. Then God showed me that humor was the bridge that would take me from my nonfiction to fiction. Once I realized that bridge would hold me (I’m a chocoholic, so I wasn’t sure) you’d better believe I galloped across it. Thank you, Lord!
